Emergency Response and Disaster Preparedness
Interested in building strong, healthy and prepared communities?
We offer opportunities
for volunteers to help LA County meet the increasing need for health care
personnel in times of disaster or public health emergency. Volunteer Center of
Los Angeles have partnered with the
Los Angeles County Disaster Healthcare Volunteers – LA County Surge Unit
(formerly known as ESAR-VHP) to recruit, register, and pre-credential medical,
health, mental health and other volunteers in advance of a large scale disaster
or public health emergency. These volunteers will serve in an acute care,
mobile or temporary field hospitals, health clinics, disaster shelters, first
aid stations or Points of Dispensing (POD) sites in order to alleviate the need
for medical and health professionals during a disaster within Los Angeles
County.
The
Los Angeles County Disaster Healthcare Volunteers program (LA County DHV) is a
collaborative partnership between the Department of Health Services, Emergency
Medical Services Agency, Department of Public Health, and the Volunteer Center
of Los Angeles. In addition to the LA County Surge Unit, there are three Medical
Reserve Corps (MRC) units within LA County DHV, including MRC Los Angeles,
Beach Cities Health District MRC and Long Beach MRC. Volunteers are given a
choice of units when they register.
Volunteer Center of Los Angeles is the volunteer
management contractor for the LA County DHV-LA County Surge Unit. VCLA manages
recruitment efforts, maintains and updates volunteer records, notifies,
assigns, deploys, and monitors volunteers following disaster or public health
emergency.
