
Our History
The Volunteer Center of Los Angeles,
(VCLA) is a volunteer management organization founded in 1951 by the
Assistance League of Southern California. Nearly 60 years later,
VCLA has evolved into a multi-service volunteer management
organization. VCLA refers volunteers of all ages to nonprofit,
public and governmental organizations to provide assistance with the
delivery of important services that support community needs. VCLA
is the largest volunteer center in the nation.
Assistance League of Southern California
(ALSC) is the parent agency of the Volunteer Center of Los
Angeles. ALSC is a public service, not for profit 501 (c) (3)
organization established in 1919. ALSC provides a broad range of
essential social services to people in need within the greater Los
Angeles area through a partnership of dedicated volunteers and
staff.
VCLA
is the largest volunteer action center in the country, and a proud
member of the HandsOn Network and Points of Light Institute,
an international organization which inspires, equips, and mobilizes
people to take action that changes the world. At the center of the
network are 250 affiliates serving 83% of the American population
and 12 international communities.
